Healthy Snacks were a Great Big Hit!
Over 60 students celebrated the Great Big Crunch at the Hamilton Farmers’ Market.  It was the MARKET’s first time participating in this unique annual event that promotes healthy snacking, fresh local fruits and veggies, and student nutrition.  School’s visiting the MARKET during the week of March 10th had a great time biting into their very own crisp Ontario apples.  By collaborating with the Central Public Library, the MARKET was able to extend the event to even more students.

Food Share Toronto’s Great Big Crunch started in 2006, and since then has engaged over 750, 000 participants in what they call a national celebration and, “annual moment of anti-silence where Canadians come together and bite into crunchy, fresh, local produce in unison.” Tastebuds, Hamilton’s Student Nutrition Collaborative, tallied Hamilton’s total 2016 Crunch count at 17, 394 crunchers!

We hope even more students take the Great Big Crunch challenge at the Hamilton Farmers’ Market in 2017.
